Denkploeg can put a notification as a message in a Discord or Slack channel: an outage, a paid subscription, a finished sprint, an approval that is waiting. You connect a webhook for that. It takes a few minutes and needs no bot or app of your own.
Create a webhook in Discord
- In Discord open Server Settings, then Integrations, then Webhooks, and choose New Webhook.
- Give it a name (for example Denkploeg) and a picture, and choose the channel the messages should go to.
- Choose Copy Webhook URL. That URL is a secret: anyone who has it can write in that channel. Do not put it in a chat or a document.
For Slack, create an app with Incoming Webhooks and add a webhook to the channel. The URL starts with hooks.slack.com.
Connect in Denkploeg
- For your whole agency: Messages to your clients, tab Channels. Only the agency owner connects. All workspaces under the agency report in the channel, with the workspace name in the message.
- For one workspace: Planning Studio, a project, Automations, Chat channels block.
Paste the URL, choose the channel's purpose and a notification level, and enter a code from your authenticator app. The code is valid for five minutes, so connect several channels in a row. The URL is then stored encrypted in the vault and never shown again.
After that you can choose Send test message per channel, or Send an example to all channels at the top. You then see what each channel looks like in practice.
Which channels to create
A purpose has at most one channel. You do not need all thirteen; start with what you want to hear about.
| Purpose | For |
|---|---|
| Outages | a service goes down, and the recovery |
| Security | failed sign-ins, second factor, roles, tokens, break-glass |
| Release | a new version has started or succeeded |
| Costs and credits | the monthly cap is almost reached, credits were topped up |
| Worker and logs | what the worker did (quiet, to look back) |
| Sign-ups | a new trial or customer, a trial that is ending |
| Orders and payments | a paid subscription, an invoice that is overdue |
| Support | a new ticket, an assistant that has stopped |
| To sign | an approval is waiting for you |
| Crew activity | agents starting or finishing a task (quiet) |
| Sprint | a sprint has started or finished |
| Reviews and checks | a pull request is waiting for review |
| Progress per client | a milestone or preview is ready |
The notification level is the colour of the border: red asks for action, yellow warns, green is good news, grey is quiet. In Discord that helps you mute some channels or keep others always on.
What a message shows
A title, a short explanation, up to eight fields (for example workspace, amount, version), a Next step line and an Open in Denkploeg button. The title and the button point to your own portal. A message can never tag anyone and contains no links to other sites.
Safety
- The webhook is a secret and is stored encrypted in the vault, never on a screen, in a log or in a message.
- Connecting and changing a purpose need a code from your authenticator app. Disconnecting does too.
- A channel receives at most ten messages per minute.
- Denkploeg only sends to the webhook you connected yourself. A message never chooses its own destination.
- If you delete the webhook in Discord, the channel stops and shows as off in Denkploeg, with the reason.
Your own bot or the Denkploeg app
Messages with buttons that do something, a thread per outage and private messages need a bot. Denkploeg uses one for its own server. We do not offer that to customers yet: connect a webhook and you get everything above. If you want buttons or threads in your own server later, let us know.
