Signing in with a passkey

Sign in without a password using your fingerprint, face or device PIN, and use a passkey as your second step.

DocumentationSigning in with a passkey

A passkey is a key stored on your phone, laptop or security key. You unlock it with your fingerprint, your face or the PIN of that device. There is nothing to type over, nothing to remember and nothing a fake site can capture: a passkey only works on Denkploeg itself.

Adding a passkey

Go to My account, card Passkeys. Give the passkey a name you will recognise later (for example "work laptop") and choose Add passkey. Your device then asks for your fingerprint, face or PIN.

  • Adding asks for a confirmation first: a code from your app, or a passkey you already have. An open screen on a borrowed laptop is not enough to add a key.
  • You add your first passkey once two-step sign-in with an app is on. That way you always have recovery codes.
  • You can have up to ten passkeys. For each one you see when it was added and when it was last used.
  • Renaming one asks for the same confirmation.
  • Every passkey that is added or removed shows up in your notifications.

Signing in

On the sign-in screen, choose Sign in with a passkey. Your device asks which passkey to use and for your fingerprint, face or PIN, and you are in. No password is needed: the passkey counts as both steps at once.

If you do sign in with your password, the second step lets you choose: Continue with your passkey, or a code from your app or a recovery code.

You are then signed in to the studios as well, just as after signing in with your password.

A passkey counts as a second step

If two-step sign-in is required for you, a passkey counts the same as a code from your app. A passkey also works as the confirmation for a sensitive action, such as adding or removing a passkey.

Removing and losing one

You remove a passkey in My account, again after a confirmation. You cannot remove your last second step: turn on the code app first or add another passkey.

Lost your device? Sign in with your password and a recovery code and remove that passkey. Recovery always goes through your recovery codes, never through email alone.

If it does not work

If you cancel your device's prompt, nothing happens. A passkey that does not match gives the same message as an unknown one, and failed attempts count towards the sign-in limit. If your browser does not support passkeys, you will not see the button and you sign in with your password.
